We utilize 3D scanning as a reverse engineering tool to gather component information accurately and quickly. Once obtained, this data can be exported to 3D modeling software for optimization or sent directly to a rapid prototyping machine for build.

Reverse engineering is the process of capturing the geometry of existing physical objects and then using the data obtained as a foundation for designing something new. The new design can be a duplicate of the original or an entirely new adaptation.

There are a number of methods to acquire the data, however, the existing part should dictate which technology is used. Neco's knowledge and experience combined with its extensive 3D hardware and software base assures customers that the right technology will be paired to the project.

A common problem facing industrial designers is how to get organinc shapes into CAD systems. For example, a design concept may begin with a physical model of an ergonomically designed object; the client has approved the design and now its time to develop a CAD model in ProEngineer, SolidWorks, or other downstream software.

Another common problem is how to get an existing object in to a CAD system. Sometimes a part is no longer manufactured and and no CAD files exist.

At Neco we have solutions to these problems. We have a variety of scanning systems that can be used to digitize your part. Next we have a variety of CAD software we use to develop files that can imported into any downstream software application.

Once an object has been converted to three dimensional data, it can be used in many ways: It can be scaled up or down and milled on a CNC milling machine or used for a variety of rapid prototyping processes.. It can be sent to many different scholars for simultaneous study. It can be used for biomechanical study and animation. It can allow analysis of volume, surface area and cross section.
